Born in Austria, he studies at the Musikhochschule in Vienna with Prof. Gerhard Kahry (voice) and Kmsg. Kurt Equiluz (Lied/oratorio)

He makes his début at the Opéra National de Paris in 1997 and subsequently is invited to do Goro/Madama Butterfly, Monostatos (with Bob Wilson and Fura del Baus) as well as 1.Geharnischter/Zauberflöte, Capito/Mathis der Maler, Block/Gerichtsdiener at the world premiere of Philippe Manoury’s “K...”, Mime/Ring des Nibelungen and Shabby Peasant/Lady Macbeth of Mszensk.

At the Glyndebourne Festival Opera he sings in more than 130 performances including Vašek/Bartered Bride, Reverend Adams/Peter Grimes, Monostatos, Arnalta/L’Incoronazione di Poppea and the Witch/Hansel und Gretel - the two last also semistaged at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall -, Tanzmeister/Ariadne auf Naxos and Podestà/La finta giardiniera.

After the performance of Salome on 28.07.2021 at Munich Opera Festival he received the title of Bayerischer Kammersänger, on 23.02.2022 he was awarded the title of Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French General Consul in Munich and on 15.03. he received the Austrian Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst in Vienna.
